Marriage Notes: "James (Elphinstone), born 12 July 1538. He is designed of Elieston, co. Linlithgow, 14 November 1584, of Inverdovat in 1535, and had a charter of novodamus of these lands 12 November 1599. He married, first, before 8 August 1590, Jean, daughter of the Earl of Rothes. They were infeft in an annualrent of 1100 merks from the lands of Elphinstone by a deed of 6 August 1587. She had been married, first, to David Crichton of Nauchtan in Fife; secondly, before 8 March 1557, to John Grant of Freuchie, who died 1585. She died at Kirkcaldy 17 December 1591." James next married Agnes RAMSAY 'of Clatto' before 1596.3 (Agnes RAMSAY 'of Clatto' was born about 1555.) Marriage Notes: "(James) Elphinstone married, secondly, before 1596, Agnes Ramsay, sister to Ramsay of Clatto, with issue.
