"Thomas Grant, tutor of Carron, mentioned as brother-german to Patrick Grant of Carron in a wadset of Thomdow by John Grant of Freuchie to William Hay of Mayne, 21st May 1617, in which he is said to have been last occupier of Thomdow. He had a tack from Thomas Innes, parson of Bona, of the lands of Rhynaballiche. On the murder of his nephew by John Grant of Ballindalloch in 1623, he became tutor of Carron. being retoured, on 3d May 1631, nearer agnate, or kinsman on the father's side, to John Grant. lawful son to the deceased John Grant of Carron. He is mentioned, in 1637, as tutor to his grand nephew in the proceedings respecting the lands of Wester Elchies. He obtained a pardon on 29th March 1634, for his share in the slaughter of Patrick, son of Thomas Grant of Cardells. as it was without premeditation or quarrel, and as he had given security for satisfying the parties injured by the slaughter. He was alive on 28th May 1650."
