"In 1778 and 1779 he (William Grant) had begun constructing grist-mills at various locations, including Saint-Roch, the seigneury of Belœil, and Île Sainte-Hélène, from where David Alexander Grant, a son of his elder brother David, supervised his uncle's milling, shipbuilding, and seigneurial interests in the Montreal region."

"Captain David Alexander Grant was born in 1753. He was the son of David Grant. He married Marie Charles Joseph le Moyne, Baroness de Longueuil, daughter of Charles Jacques le Moyne, 3rd Baron de Longueuil and Marie Anne Catherine Fleury d'Eschambault, on 7 May 1781. He died in 1806.
He gained the rank of Captain in the 84th Regiment."
