Harry Gordon lawfull son of Mr George Gordon Minr., and Mrs Agnes Brodie his spouse was born upon the third day of June 1730 & was baptized by Mr Alexander Irvine Minr at St Andrews upon the said day about eight of the clock at night & two hours after birth so was born at 6 of the night Wittnesses Sir Harry Innes of that Ilk & Harry Spens son of James Spens of Alves Kirktone."




"617- Rev. Harry (Harie). 1757, Chaplain, Garrison at Fort George, salary 15s. per week ; May 28, petitioned the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, 'setting forth the smallness of his stipend (16 8s. 1 3/5d.) the
teinds being exhausted with the great expence and trouble he is exposed to by the building of Fort George and craving some addition to his living from the Royal Bounty,' 'the building of Fort George has taken up more than one-third of the lands'. 1760, May 23, the Assembly instructed committee for managing Royal Bounty to allow Gordon £25 for that year.
Probably son of Rev. George, minister of Alves ; licen. by Presb. Fordyce, 1753, Nov. 23; ord. 1757, Apr. 5; min., Ardersier (Scott's Fasti, in. 245); in. 1754, Dec. 21, Sarabella, dau. of Rev. Walter Morrison, Deskford ; and had Rev. Abcrcromby, 72, and Pryse Lockhart, 1164. Gordon d. 1764, Mar. 15. Great-grandfather of Harry Panmure, 623. Possibly brother of James, 730"

"Harry Gordon, born 3rd June 1730, son of George G., min. of Alves ; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen ; licen. by Presb. of Fordyce 23rd Nov. 1753 ; ord. 5th April 1757 ; died 15th March 1764. He was chaplain to the garrison at Fort-George. He marr. 21st Dec. 1754, Sarabella (she marr. (2) Walter Chalmers, min. of Deskford, died 3rd Jan. 1811), daugh. of Walter Morrison, min. of Deskford, and had issue Alexander, M.A., planter in Tobago, died, aged 26; George, M.A., barrister, London ; Abercromby, min. of Banff, born 1758; Major Pryse Lockhart, N.B. Fusiliers, author of Personal Memoirs, or Reminiscences of Men and Manners at Home and Abroad (2 vols., London, 1830), born 23rd April 1762, died 2nd Sept. 1845. [His son, George Huntly Gordon, was amanuensis to Sir Walter Scott, and a licentiate of the Church. For him Scott wrote two discourses, afterwards published as Religious Discourses by a Layman (London, 1828). [Pryse L.
