  General Notes:

"John Grant of Easter Elchies, Baron of Exchequer, by a Disposition, of 9th December, 1758, recorded the 13th of the same month, sold all his lands of Easter Elchies, Rothes, Edinville, and Keithock, to James, fifth Earl of Findlater and Seafield."

James married Elizabeth HAY, daughter of Thomas HAY Viscount of Dupplin, then 7th Earl of Kinnoull and Margaret DRUMMOND, about 1714.1 2 (Elizabeth HAY was born about 1690 and died before December 1723 in Dupplin. Perthshire, Scotland 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (James Ogilvy) married, first, about 1714, Elizabeth Hay, second daughter of Thomas, sixth Earl of Kinnoull"

from Scots Peerage (vol 4)

Note:
Thomas was 7th Earl. There seems to be some doubt among some writers about the status of George Hay 3rd Earl, for in
Scots Peerage (vol 5) it states:

"George, third Earl of Kinnoull, is not given by the Peerage writers, but there is undoubted evidence for hisexistence, and for some facts in his career." (page 225)

"Elizabeth, married, about 1714, to James, Earl of Findlater and Seafield. She died at Dupplin before December 1723."

from Scots Peerage (vol 5) 1 2

James next married Sophia HOPE, daughter of Charles HOPE Earl of Hopetoun and Henrietta JOHNSTONE, on 14 December 1723 in Abercorn parish, West Lothian, Scotland.3 (Sophia HOPE was born on 31 May 1702 1, baptised on 4 June 1702 in Kirkliston parish, West Lothian, Scotland 5 and died on 25 April 1761 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (James Ogilvy) married .... secondly, in December 1723, Sophia Hope, born 31 May 1702, eldest daughter of Charles, first Earl of Hopetoun."

from Scots Peerage (vol 4)
