"The Earl of Aboyne ultimately became proprietor of the lands of Auchoilzie in consequence of the debts due to him by the last proprietor. The James (son of Alexander's son James) mentioned in the general charge (p. 30), as appears from the following : -

'Inventory of the progress of Writs and Evidents of the Lands of Auchoilzie and pertinents disponed of by The Right Honourable Charles Earl of Aboyne to James Farquharson Esquire of Invercauld, 1766,' was the last Stewart of Auchoilzie. The lands passed in the above year to the Invercauld family, and were incorporated with their estates, and finally sold to the late Sir James T. McKenzie, Bart."

Alexander married Anna GORDON, daughter of Robert GORDON of Corse and Unknown, 9 July 1714(contract).1 (Anna GORDON was born about 1702.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Among the Gordons on Upper Deeside the family which occupied Aucholzie from 1750 to 1875 has made its mark. Aucholizie, which is in Glengairn, is derived from the Gaelic words 'Achadh coille,' or field of the wood. The lands were held in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by a family of Stewart, and in 1714 there was a marriage contract, between Alexander Stewart of Aucholzie and Anna Gordon, only daughter of Robert Gordon of Corse."

" 'Regd Contract of Marriage between Alexander Stewart eldest son of William Stewart of Aucholzie with consent of his said Father, and Anna Gordon only daughter of Robert Gordon of Corse, whereby the said William Stewart sells to the said Alexander Stewart and Anna Gordon and the longest liver of them two in Conjunct fee and Liferent, and the heirs male of the said Marriage All and haill the foresaid Lands and pertinents, dated the 9th July 1714 and Regd the 4th April 1719.'

There follows :

'Bond by William and Alexander Stewart of Auchoilzie to Duncan Grant in Wester Lellach (Kellogh) for the sum of 300 merks, dated 5th Septr 1722 with Interest from Martimus thereafter payable against Martinmas 1723."

"Stewart, Alexander Aucholzie, Glenmuick. Eldest son of William Stewart of Aucholzie and his wife Euphame Farquharson, daughter of Harry Farquharson of Whitehouse, and sister of Harry Farquharson of Whitehouse Mill, who was killed at Culloden. Married Anna Gordon, only daughter of Robert Gordon of Corse 9 July 1714, and by her had two daughters Margaret and Helen. He died in May 1746 of wounds received at Culloden."
