He (Hugh Fraser) married (contract dated 24 December 1567) Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of John, fourth Earl of Atholl. She had a jointure of 7000 Scots a year. Lord Lovat and his wife lived a quiet country life at Bunchrew and Kinmilies, and there their family was born.

Elizabeth next married Captain James STEWART of Bothwellmuir, then Earl of Arran, Lord Chancellor of Scotland, son of Andrew STEWART 2nd Lord Ochiltree and Unknown, on 6 July 1581.^{1 2} (Captain James STEWART of Bothwellmuir, then Earl of Arran, Lord Chancellor of Scotland was born about 1546 and died 1595(1596) ³.). The cause of his death was attack and killing by James Douglas of Parkhead.
