General Notes: "On 27 May 1474 Hugh Douglas (son of Henry and Margaret Douglas) granted to his kinsman James, first Earl of Morton, a formal renunciation of all right he or his heirs might have to the lordship of Dalkeith, under a penalty of £30,000, if he or his heirs repudiated the engagement, excepting such rights as might fall to him by inheritance. His brothers, Mr. James and John, were witnesses to the writ." Henry married Margaret DOUGLAS, daughter of James DOUGLAS of Balvenie, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice SINCLAIR.1 (Margaret DOUGLAS was born about 1428 and died before September 1473 1.)
