CHRONOLOGICAL ERROR

Family Records of the Bruces and the Cumyns states:

"James, eldest son of Sir Thomas Cumyn of Altyre, married Margaret, daughter of Sir Alexander Gordon of Midmar, son of the first Earl of Huntly, but died vit. pat."

In the margin beside the second of the above quotations is the date March 7 1450.

However, A History of Their Making dates the death of Sir Thomas as 1419, when his son Alexander succeeded.

Since Alexander Gordon 1st of Abergeldie, Huntly's son, was active in the second half of the 15th century, and died sometime before 1504, the statement about the marriage of this James Cumming to his daughter has been ignored here. House of Gordon mentions no such marriage. 3 4 5
