"Gordon, John, of Avochie Son of Harry Gordon of Avochie. He cannot have been more than a lad at the time of the Rising. he must have escaped to France, and seems probably that he remained there until 1763. he married Mary, only child of Peter Gordon of Ardmeallie, a noted Whig. They had three sons and two daughters. He died at Aberdeen in 1778."

from Jacobites of 45

Note:

Both quotations above state that John's wife was an only child. This seems to have been far from being so.
