"Avochie (Kinnoir, Huntly). 1687, Avachie, Retour ; 1677, Abachie, Huntly Rental ; 1600, Auachie, Huntly Rental ; 1567, Awachie, Spald. Cl. Mis., IV., 155.
The spelling, Abachie, is a misreading of v for b, a mistake which occurs in other two instances in the Rental of 1677. None of these references are old enough to give any certainty as to the origin of the name. If it is not the same word, it is probably from the same root as Alvie, Alva, Alvah, and Avoch, the older forms of these being Alveth and Alvecht.
LOCATION
Avochie is situated in Aberdeenshire, on the east bank of the River Deveron, north of Huntly and east of Ruthven, just south of Milntown of Rothiemay. Across thr river to the west can be found Auchanachie and Drumhead. South of Avochie lies Auchmill. 2
