(261) Here lyes the remains of John Innes of Knockorth, Esq., who died [blank] and in the same grave lys the remains of Margaret Gordon, his wife, daughter to Sir John Gordon of Park, who died January, 1767, also near this place was interr'd five of their children, who died young. This stone was placed by order of their very dutifull son, Captain Alexander Innes of His Majesty's Navie. (The Innes and Gordon arms are inscribed on the stone)"

Note

The Book of the Duffs comp. by Alistair and Henrietta Tayler refers to Margaret Gordon's husband repeatedly as "James Innes of Knockorth", but, from the evidence of the above quotation and other evidence, that would seem to be an error. 1 2
