  General Notes:

The Horse Tax returns of 12 September 1797 included the name of a William Findlater of Boggend in the parish of Oyne, Aberdeenshire, as one of the masters. He was listed as having four horses, two of which were liable to 2s duty and two who were not. the duty to be paid was therefore 4s.




"Two tablestones bear the following, the
introductory verses being on the end supports:

(1).

All mortal here
Of death must teast,
And to the grave
They go to rest.
Here lies the body of Helen Findlater; died in the year 1784, aged 17 years. This stone is put here by her father, William Findlater, and if he shall die near to this, he chuses to ly under this.
Here lies William Findlater, who died 1st December, 1808, aged 77 years.
Also George, son of George Findlater, farmer in Bogend, who died 2nd February, 1836, aged
32 years.

(2).

She was
A good wife,
And so continued
All her life.
Here lies the body of Jean Watt, spouse to William Findlater. She died in the year 1798, aged 58 years.
This grave stone is put here,
In memory of her body dear."

William married Jean WATT on 12 July 1764 in Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 2 (Jean WATT was baptised on 4 May 1740 in Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, died in 1798 5 and was buried in 1798 in Oyne Cemetery, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 5.)
