The 1851 census for Bogend in Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, recorded George Findlater as head of a household of eleven people, including himself. Apart from himself and his wife, Elspet, the household consisted of three of his sons, two daughters, two granddaughters and two locally born farm servants, John and James Donald, both in their teens. George was recorded as a farmer of 90 acres of land. He had been born in Oyne and was 78 years of age.




George Findlater was recorded as a farmer in his wife's death certificate of 1866.




"Here lies the body of Alexander Findlater, son of George Findlater, farmer in Bogend, who died 26th December. 1835, aged 25. The above George Findlater, who died 28th November. 1852, aged 79 years. And his son William, who died 5th December, 1840, aged 32 years.

Here lies the body of ALEXR FINDLATER son of GEORGE FINDLATER farmer in Bogend who died 20 Dec 1809 aged 12. Also above GEORGE FINDLATER who died 18^th May 1852 aged 79 years, and JAMES who died in infancy. In memory of MARY FINDLATER wife of CHARLES FORBES who died 13^th May 1862 aged 25 years. The said CHARLES FORBES died June 1862 aged 30 years. ELSPET HOME wife of the above GEORGE FINDLATER who died 17^thDecr 1866 aged 88 years, their daughter JANE who died ? March 1869 aged 60 years. JAMES FINDLATER son of the above CHARLES FORBES died 19 May 1878 aged 16 years."

George married Elspet HOME, daughter of James HOME in Pitmachie and Anne LEDINGAME, on 4 September 1800 in Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.¹ (Elspet HOME was baptised on 1 February 1778 in Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland,^{5 7} died 14 December 1866 at 11.15 pm in Bogend, Oyne Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland ² and was buried on 17 December 1866 in Oyne Cemetery, Aberdeenshire, Scotland ⁸.). The cause of her death was senile debility.
