DE BRUS, Edward Earl of Carrick, briefly 'King of Ireland' 2
Another name for Edward was BRUCE, Edward.1 User ID: K84. Edward had a relationship with Isabel, daughter of John of Strathbogie, 9th Earl of Atholl and Mary or Marjory of Mar. (Isabel was born about 1290.) Marriage Notes: "Isabel, a daughter who, according to Barbour, married Edward Bruce, Earl of Carrick, and brother of King Robert Bruce. She had a son Alexander who was killed at Halidon in 1333. Various grants were made by King Robert to this lady, styled Isabel de Atholia, and to his nephew Alexander. Barbour states that Edward Bruce's coldness to his wife was the cause of a quarrel with her brother. She apparently died before June 1317, when Edward Bruce had a dispensation to marry Isabel Ross." Edward next married Isabella, daughter of William (II) 3rd Earl of Ross and Euphemia DE BERKELEY, 1 June 1317 (dispensation but marriage probably did not take place).1 (Isabella was born about 1285.) Marriage Notes: "Isabella ('of Ross'), who obtained a dispensation from Pope John XXII., dated at Avignon, 1 June 1317, to marry Edward Bruce, Earl of Carrick, connected within the third and fourth degrees of affinity. He fell at the battle of Dundalk, s.p.l., 5 October 1318. The marriage probably never took place. |
