Christian Shands was recorded by 1841 census for Aberdeenshire living at Blackhall Inverurie with her husband and three small girls - their children. She was recorded as being in the 25-29 years age group and had been born in Aberdeenshire.

Christian Shand was recorded by the 1851 census living with her husband and six children at Hillhead in Keig Aberdeenshire. She was recorded as 37 years of age and as having been born in Skene Aberdeenshire. Her children were aged from 1 year to 10 years.

The 1861 census for Keig parish Aberdeen recorded Christian Shand living with her husband, five children and a baby granddaughter at Hillhead, a croft in the parish. She was noted as being a 'crofter's wife'. Christian was recorded as 48 years of age and born in Skene parish Aberdeenshire.

In the 1881 census for Alford Aberdeenshire Christina Shand was recorded head of the household living at 8 Village Road Alford. She was recorded as being a widow of 67 years of age. She was a retired crofter's wife and had been born in Skene. With her in the household lived her daughter Helen and her 3 grandchildren, Helen's children Betsy, Andrew and John. 2 5 6 7


Christian married William SHAND, son of George SHAND and Jane REID, on 22 May 1836 in Alford parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (William SHAND was born about 1810 in Inverkeithny, Banffshire, Scotland 4 6 and died 2 February 1868 at 4.00 am in Hillhead, Keig, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 2 4.). The cause of his death was abdominal tumour over 4 months.
