The 1860 US Federal Census of the Free Inhabitants in the town of Huntington, in the County of Suffolk, State of New York, recorded Robert Nesbit, aged 3 years, living with his family in the Deer Park post office area. His birthplace was Canada.

The 1870 Federal census for the state of Connecticut recorded Robert Nesbit living in the first ward of New Haven with his mother and sister. He was recorded as 11 years old and born in canada. Oddly, he too was 'at home'.

The 1880 US Census recorded Robert C. Nesbit living at 639 Chapel Street, New Haven, Connecticut, with his mother, sister, and brother in law. He was recorded at 23 years of age, born in Canada, of Scottish parents. He was a single man and worked as a clerk in a store. 1 2 3
