  General Notes:

The 1851 UK census for Carrington, Midlothian, recorded John Nisbet living with his family in Carrington Barns. His birthplace was noted as Humbie, Haddingtonshire (East Lothian). His age was 2 years.

The 1860 US Federal Census of the Free Inhabitants in the town of Huntington, in the County of Suffolk, State of New York, recorded John Nesbit, aged 12 years, living with his family in the Deer Park post office area. His birthplace was Scotland.

In the 1901 census for Scotland John Nisbet was recorded as born in Pathhead Mislothian. He was aged 52 years and worked as a subway car driver. He lived at 61 East Miller St, Glasgow with his wife Margaret and son Thomas.

In John Nisbet's death certificate of 1915 he was recorded as "Subway car Driver (Married to Margaret McDonald)" and as aged 66 years at death. His parents were both deceased. 2 3 6 8

Margaret McLeod, daughter of the deceased man, who had been present where he died and whose address was noted as 42 Crichton Street Glasgow, was the informant of his death before the registrar at Glasgow on the day of her father's death. 8


John married Margaret McDONALD, daughter of James McDONALD and Mary McKENZIE, on 27 March 1874 in 10 Clayton Terrace, Dennistoun, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret McDONALD was born on 12 May 1849 in Rothesay, Bute, Scotland 7 and died on 5 November 1940 7.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage service was conducted according to the forms of the Church of Scotland, by Thomas Graham minister of Martyrs Church Glasgow. The witnesses were Alexander Watson and Elizabeth McDonald.

John Nisbet worked as a journeyman japanner and was a single man. He was recorded as 25 years old, and resident at 30 Barrowfield Street, Glasgow. His father, Thomas, was recorded as deceased.

Margaret McDonald was a powerloom weaver of 24 years of age. She lived at 23 John Street, Bridgeton. She was a single woman whose father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 30 March 1874 in Glasgow. 1
