Richard married Katherine LUMSDEN, daughter of Reverend Mr Thomas LUMSDEN Minister of Kinkell parish and Elizabeth STEWART, on 9 March 1630 in (Contract).1 2 (Katherine LUMSDEN was born about 1588.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Patrick Gordon died before 1630 .... After his death, she (Katherine Lumsden) married Mr Richard Maitland of Auchencruive, her marriage contract with whom was signed at Nethermuir, March 9, 1630. Some money which Mrs Maitland possessed at the date of the contract was to be invested at the sight of George Gordon of Nethermuir, and Mr William Lumsden, advocate in Aberdeen, both of whom, together with John Gordon, a brother of the former, were witnesses to the signing of the deed. She was again a widow by Feb. 26, 1643, on which date she brought an action against Richard Maitland of Auchencruive, son and heir of the said Richard (Littlejohn's Aberdeenshire Sheriff Court, iii., 19)."

Registration Katherine Lumisden, widow of Mr Richard Maitland of Auchincreiwe v Richard Maitland of Auchincreiwe, son and heir of the said Mr Richard Maitland. The deed, which was ordained to be registered, was the marriage contract between the deceased Mr Richard Maitland and the Pursuer, by which there was settled on her, the liferent of Milne of Cairnfechill, in the parish of Udny. The pursuer had been previously married to Patrick Gordoun of Neithermuire, at which place the Contract had been signed on 9 March 1630. Some money which Mrs Maitland possessed at the date of the Contract was to be invested at the sight of George Gordoun of Neithermuire, and Mr Wm. Lumisden, Advocat in Abd. both of whom, together with John Gordoun, a brother of the former, were witnesses to the signing of the Deed."
