"Marie was the assumed daughter of Richard Maitland and Margaret, daughter Gordon of Straloch. Her future husband, James Cheyne, will be found in 1696 on a major property owned by herassumed brother Charles Maitland of Pittrichie.

The baptismal record of Marie Cheyne documented Marie Maitland as her mother, 6 June 1692, at Auchencrieve, in Methlick Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.
