"Walter Berclay (Towie XIII) married a daughter of Patrick Gordon of Haddo, and by her had issue three sons, Patrick his heir, Walter and John, who appear in the records, and one daughter, Margaret, who married James Gordon of Balmade."

The dates suggest Patrick Gordon of Haddo was her brother rather than her father. If she was born late in the life of her father it may have been her brother's name which appeared in documents.

Balmade is usually linked to the Gordons of Lesmoir. 'James Gordon of Balmade' may refer to the son of James 1st of Lesmoir, known as 'of Crichie', who did marry a Margaret Barclay, but she was of the Barclay of Gartley family, it seems. 1
