Bessie married Andrew SKENE in Auchorie, bailie of Skene barony, son of James SKENE 12th of that Ilk and Johanna DOUGLAS.1 (Andrew SKENE in Auchorie, bailie of Skene barony was born about 1569 and died in 1619 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"He (Andrew Skene) appears, in 1598, as burgess of Aberdeen ; and in 1599 Andrew Skene in Aberdeen (the brother), and John Forbes of Camphill (the brother-in-law), appear as executors to umquhile Alexander Skene, sometime fiar of that ilk ; and again, in the same year, on 3rd November, as executors, lawfully confirmed, to umquhile Alexander Skene, fiar of that ilk.

He appears, after his father's death in 1605, to have obtained possession of the Tanistry lands of Auchorie, as we find him so designed in a service in 1610 ; and, in 1613, Andrew Skene in Auchorie is baillie of the barony of Skene.

He married Bessie Cadell or Calder, daughter of the laird of Asloun, by whom he begat three sons

I. Sir Andrew Skene, thereafter laird of Halyards, in Fife.

II. Patrick Skene [ancestor of the Skenes in Austria].

III. William Skene, died unmarried.

IV. Jean Skene, married Mr. Robert --------- , Professor of Divinity at St. Andrews.

V. Isobell Skene, died unmarried."

Bessie next married John LESLIE of Aberlour, 3rd Gudeman of Edenville, son of James LESLIE 2nd Gudeman of Edenville and Janet HARVEY of Elrick.2 (John LESLIE of Aberlour, 3rd Gudeman of Edenville was born about 1575.)

"James Leslie was succeeded by his eldest son, John Leslie, styled of Aberlour, third Goodman of Edenville. He married Bessie Calder or Caddel of Asloune, and had issue

I. Alexander, who died without issue before his father.

II. John, who succeeded his father.

III. Margaret, married to Robert Anderson, a doctor in .Elgin."
