Research Notes:
MICHAEL CURRAN
There are several examples of a Michael Curran from County Leitrim listed in both the 1796 Irish Flax Growers List, and also in the 1848-1864 Index to Griffith's Valuation. Not enough detail is known yet to identify which part of Leitrim he might have come from. For the first list of Irish Flax Growers in 1796 the residence is simply 'Leitrim'. For Griffith's Valuation there are several residences: Leitrim Drumreilly Corrala Leitrim Carrigallen Errew Leitrim Cloone Carrickavoher Leitrim Cloone Corriga Leitrim Kiltoghert Annaghearly Leitrim Kiltoghert Kilnagross Leitrim Kiltubbrid Drumcromaun Leitrim Kiltubbrid Mullaghboy
A Church Marriage Record viewed via The Irish Family History Foundation, for payment, may or may not be relevant here: "Church Marriage Record
Date of Marriage: 18/02/1829 Parish / District: BORNACOOLA ROMAN CATHOLIC County: Co. Leitrim Husband Name: Michael Curran Wife Catherine Costolo Address: Drumard Jones Denomination: Roman Catholic Roman Catholic" No other information was noted on the record. The date of this is fairly near Hugh's birth year. The place is about five mles from Cloone. The fact that the wife's name is not the same is not insuperable. Hugh may have been the child of another wife, or may have been born outside marriage. On the other hand Michael Curran is not an unusual name for the area.
Michael married Margaret ROUKE. (Margaret ROUKE was born about 1810 and died before 12 March 1858.)
