Alexander married Magdalene SCRIMGEOUR, daughter of John SCRIMGEOUR Viscount of Dudhope and Lord Scrimgeour and Margaret SETON, in 1617.1 (Magdalene SCRIMGEOUR was born about 1602.)

"Sir Alexander Irvine was served heir to his father's estates in the counties of Aberdeen, Kincardine, and Forfar, on the 18th March, 1630. He had married, in 1617, Magdalen, eldest daughter of Sir John Scrimzeour of Dudhope, and at that time had received a charter of the lands of Kinmuck from his father, who, in 1621, also granted the lands of Forglen in Banffshire to him and his spouse."
