Marriage Notes:
No marriage record has been found for William Thom and Margaret Forbes. There is no indication that their children were born outside of marriage.
A document in Strathdon parish register, signed by the session clerk Alexander Adam lists births of four children of William Thom and Margaret Forbes.
"Register of the Names and Births of William Thom & Margaret Forbes their Children who lived some=time in Corrybrake William was born June 15th 1740 Isabel was born July 21st 1746 Alexr was born June 21st 1748 Anne was born Octr 15th 1751 Registered June 26th 1761 by Alexr. Adam Sess: Clerk"
It is not clear why this list was required; such lists can indicate children were baptised outside the Established Church of Scotland, and are being entered in the registers of the parish formally. Or, there may have been other reasons.
Clearly Margaret Forbes, by age alone, if she was born in 1709, was unlikely to have been the mother of all of William Thom's children. The 1761 registration of earlier births may signal a change in William's circumstances. He is recorded in the excerpt above as "who lived some=time in Corrybrake", suggesting that he had moved.
The Glenbucket baptism record for Ann of 1743 referred to her father, William, as being "in Lochrie".
In Isabel's birth record, in July 1746, he is referred to as "William Thom in Ledmacay."
In the baptism record of James, in 1754, he was still in Corrybrake: "Februrary 8: William Thom in Corry brake had a son baptized called JAMES."
The Glenbucket baptism record for Christian of 1762, and for Sophia of 1766, referred to their father, William, as being "in Kirkton."
Not all baptism and marriage records have survived in Glenbucket parish; there are noticeable gaps. No marriage for William Thom to any wife has been found as yet. 1 5
