  General Notes:

" ' the little laird,' as he was called, was under the guardianship of his uncle, James Skene, for we find, on 2nd November, 1538, in a mutual agreement between Alexander Skeyne of that ilk and Mr. Walter Styvart, regarding the marches of the lands of Tullibroloch, belonging to the former, and Tullocht belonging to the latter, that Alexander Skeyne becomes bound, with the consent of his uncle and curator, James Skeyne (Protocol Book of John Christisone), and he came of age in the following year, as on 22nd March, 1539, he is infeft in the lands and barony of Skene, as heir served and retoured, to Alexander Skene of that ilk, his father."

Forbes of Newhils, of whom in ther own places ; also she did bear to him two daughters - the one married on the Laird of Skeen, the oyr. on Gilbert Johnston of Standingstones."

from Family of Forbes

"It is true, however, that he married a daughter of Duncan Forbes (see Note below) of Corsinday, for on 18th March, 1541, there is a charter

'Alexandro Skene de eodem et Elizabethe Forbes ejus sponse terrarum de Auchloche et Cragydarg jacen. in Baronia de Skene in conjuncta infeodatione super resignationem dicti Alexandri.' "

from Skene of Skene

Note:

In fact this laird married the granddaughter of Duncan Forbes, not his daughter.

" William (Forbes) of Corsindae, who married Margaret Lumsden, daughter of the Laird of Coull, relict of Johnston of Caskieben, by whom he had issue : James, his heir ; Mr. Duncan of Monymusk (see p. 300) ; Patrick of Kermucks (see p. 299) ; John of Balfluig, married Janet Forbes of Brux, and his grandson succeeded to Corsindae (see below) ; William of Newhills (see p. 300) and two daughters : Elizabeth, married Alexander Skene of Skene ; and another married Gilbert Johnston of Standingstone"
