"(231) Sir Alexander Hamilton, Baronet of Haggs, died October 1699. He was created a Baronet 11th February 1669-70. He married, first, Mary, daughter of Murray of Babberton. Her Will recorded 27th October 1666 (Hamilton and Campsie). By her he had two daughters."

Note:

Mary's father, Sir James Murray of Kilbaberton (d.1634), was an architect who designed and built Baberton House. He was Overseer of the King's Works and Master of Works in Scotland who worked on significant projects, including on Linlithgow Palace and the Palace of Holyrood. He designed Parliament House in Edinburgh.

Alexander next married Mary GRANT, daughter of Lieutenant Colonel James GRANT 7th of Freuchie and Mary STEWART, before 1669. (Mary GRANT was born about 1652.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Mary (Grant), who married, before 1669, Sir Alexander Hamilton of Haggs, in the county of Lanark. In that year Mary Grant, in conjunction with her husband, pursued her brother Ludovick before the Lords of Council and Session for her tocher of twelve thousand merks, and obtained decreet in her favour. They had issue."

"(231) Sir Alexander Hamilton, Baronet of Haggs .... married, first, Mary, daughter of Murray of Babberton .... The estate of Haggs was sold in 1691 to Sir Archibald Hamilton, Bt. (No. 334), who changed the name to Rosehall. He married, second, Janet, daughter of the Laird of Grant, and had : -
