"If a gentleman was willing to stand caution for a panel it was also undoubtedly good for the reputation of the panel if an esteemed member of the community was willing to vouch for his future good conduct. Some wadsetters appear multiple times in the court records as cautioners. One such man was Robert Grant of Dallachaple. Dallachaple was a procurator who often had cause to be present in the regality court upon legal business. This might be the reason for his frequent appearances as a cautioner."
