  General Notes:

When John Gartshore of that Ilk died in 1617 his will and testament listed his possessions and his debts. He owed his mother among others:

"To Elizabethe Forsythe his mother in full and compleit payment be just compt of all bygane sowmes proffeittis and dewties of hir lifrent and conjunctle of the lands of Gartshoir possesit be the said Johnne and his tennents of all yeiris and croppis bygone preceiding the day and daite heirof, and acceptis be the said debt In full fair factionie thereof vijc lib"

Elizabeth was not literate:

"Ita est. William Flemying publicus de mandato dicte Elizabethe Forsythe scriber, nesciens ut asseruit manu propria subscripsit.

Ita est. Jacobus Stewinson communitis publics de mandato dicte Elizabeethe Forsythe scribere nesciens ut asseruit manu propria subscripsit."

And since one executor, William Stark, withdrew from that office, and another, Robert Burn, did not turn up, Elizabeth was given power and authority to settle the financial arrangements for her insolvent son:

"I Mr James Handtoun3 of Westport commissioner of [Glasgow?] Be the tenor hereof Certifeis approves and effairmis this testament and Inventar In sew foir as the same is newlie meid and gevin up needing nothing further of the former, nor name of the items above the same conteined and gevis and admittis full power and Intromissioune to the guids and geir abovewrittin foresaid Elizabethe, she acceptaring the office upon hir with power foirsaid, Elizarbetea to call and persue therefoir and to enter debt to creditors Reservand alweyes compt and reckoning be maid be hir of hir intromassioune quhen and quhair the same sall be requytat."

from Will of John Gartshore of that Ilk (1618) 1

Elizabeth married William GARTSHOIR of that Ilk. (William GARTSHOIR of that Ilk was born about 1520.)

  Marriage Notes:

Elizabethe Forsythe was recorded as the mother of Johnne Gartschoir of that Ilk in his will of 1618, so it almost certainly follows that she was a wife, or the wife of William Gartschoir of that Ilk. 1 2
