If not a daughter of the laird then Margaret was probably a relative, given the limits of the surname in the area.

"Auchengeich" is a hamlet about 4 miles from the Gartshore estate in Kirkintilloch. Possibly Margaret was a Gartshore by marriage rather than birth. 1
