James married Bethia HAMILTON, daughter of John HAMILTON 4th of Orbiston and Christian DALZELL, 20 July 1633(contract).1 (Bethia HAMILTON was born about 1610.)

  Marriage Notes:

"(416) James Hamilton of Woodhall. Married, first, Bethia, daughter of Sir John Hamilton of Orbiston, and had a daughter. He married, second, Anne, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Broomhill, and had : -

(417) JOHN Hamilton of Woodhall."

from The Heraldry of the Hamiltons

Note:

Historical and Genealogical Memoirs of the House of Hamilton presents this Bethia Hamilton as the granddaughter rather than the daughter of John Hamilton and Christian Dalzell. This is not apparently compatible with a marriage contract date of July 1633, assumibg that is correct, especially since in that volume Bethia is said to have been a daughter of a second wife. 3 4
