"The estate of Arnage was purchased by John Chene of Petfichie (2390) from Walter Chene 9th of Arnage (2391) in 1610. Thus ending the last of the title in the direct line.
Walter Chene of Arnage (2391) and James Forbes of Tilliegonie (1351) were mentioned in A. Y. Cheyne, The Cheyne Family in Scotland. James Forbes was married to (or will marry) a Barbara Cheyne (2777), whose parentage is unknown.
The said entry reads as follows: 'In 1610 Walter resigned his third part of the town and lands of Chapeltoun of Essilmont, in the barony of Arnage, which the King granted to James Forbes of Tilliegounie [Reg. Mag. Sig.]'
Walter Cheyne was Kintore Burgh Commissioner to Parliament from 1617-1621."
