5TH EARL OF LENNOX
This title was held by King James I, son of Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley and Mary, Queen of Scots. James inherited the title from his grandfather, Matthew Stewart, the 4th Earl. He later conveyed the title to his uncle Charles. 1

"Charles (Stewart), sixth Earl of Lennox, younger son of the fourth Earl, born in 1555. He had five charters, dated 18 April 1572, conveying to him and to his heirs the earldom of Lennox, but did not long enjoy his title, dying at London in his twenty-first year, 1576, and was buried in Westminster Abbey. He married, in 1574, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William Cavendish, and sister of William, first Earl of Devonshire, and had an only child,
