Phelim married Jean GORDON, daughter of George GORDON 6th Earl, then 1st Marquis of Huntly and Henrietta STEWART, in 1649.1 (Jean GORDON was born about 1610 and died after 10 March 1653 1.)

"Phelim (O' Neill)'s first wife, a daughter of Lord Iveagh, had died in September 1641, and he next married Louise, the Dutch-born daughter of Owen Roe's great rival, Thomas Preston (qv), general of the confederate Leinster army...... He was survived by his third wife (m. 1649), Lady Jean Gordon, daughter of Lord Huntley; their son Gordon sat in the Jacobite parliament in 1689 (representing Co. Tyrone), and played an active role in the Williamite wars."
