BRUCE, Robert 3rd of Clackmannan 1

  • Born: About 1376
  • Marriage (1): SCRIMGEOUR, Daughter 1
  • Died: 1405 1

   User ID: N564.

Robert married Daughter SCRIMGEOUR, daughter of Sir James SCRIMGEOUR of Dudhope, Constable of Dundee and Egidia MAXWELL.1 (Daughter SCRIMGEOUR was born about 1377.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Robert Bruce, 3rd of Clackmannan, succeeded his father and had a charter under the Great Seal for the lands of Rait on 12 August 1393. On 24 October following he had a charter for the lands of Clackmannan to himself in liferent and his eldest son and heir, David Bruce, and the heirs male of his body in fee.

He is said to have married a daughter of Sir John Scrimgeour, Constable of Dundee, but there is no proof of that."

from The Red Book of Scotland

Note:

The Scots Peerage, volume 3, does not mention 'Sir John' but says:

"
Sir Robert died before 1406. His wife is said to have been a daughter of Scrimgeour of Dudhope, Constable of Dundee, but there is no proof of this."

This at least comes closer to a possibility, for the dates as we know them for Sir John Scrimgeour would be too late for the wife of this Robert Bruce to be the daughter of Sir John. 1 2
