AUCHTERERNE

Auchtererne, afterwards called Waterearn, is in the parish of Logic Coldstone in Aberdeenshire. 2


Euphemia married George FORBES 1st of Skellater, son of William FORBES 2nd of Barnes and Katherine LUNDIE, Before 23 March 1593(1594).1 (George FORBES 1st of Skellater was born about 1571 and died on 8 July 1632.)


  Marriage Notes:

"I. George Forbes, second son of William Forbes, 2nd Laird of Barnes (a cadet house of Towie, cadet of Brux), married before March 23rd, 1593, Euphemia, daughter and co-heiress of William Skene of Auchtererne, and on September 14th, 1604. they had a charter of the lands of Skellater from Alexander, Master of Elphinstone, fiar of the lands, with the consent of Alexander, Lord Elphinstone, Life renter of the same . The charter was signed at Kildrummie - witnesses John Forbes of Newe, and Patrick Barclay of Towie.

There was also a charter of confirmation by John, Earl of Mar, 15th, 1626 .

George and Euphemia had two sons, Wil!iam, the heir, and John of Invernettie, Belnabodach and Ledmacoy, of whom presently, and two daughters, Janet and Elspet."

"On 23rd March, 1593, there is on the register of the Privy Seal a precept of a charter confirming a feu charter by Eupheme Skene, one of the two heirs of William Skene, portioner of Auchtererne, proprietor of the lands aftermentioned, with assent of George Forbes, her husband, to Arthur Skene in Tulloch, and the heirs male procreated between him and Margaret Forbes, his spouse, whom failing as their heirs whomsoever of the half of the shadow half of the town and lands of Auchtererne, with the half of the lands of Tulloch and Drumino."
