IRVINE, Alexander 1
User ID: N270. General Notes: "About the beginning of the year 1645, the severity of the imprisonment of the young Irvines was somewhat mitigated through the two brothers and Alexander Irvine, son of the laird of Artamford, being placed in one room, for they had hitherto been kept separate. This indulgence was probably granted in consequence of the illness of the two brothers, for, on the 3rd February, Robert Irvine died, and, as he was under sentence of excommunication, his remains were hurried to the grave, by the light of lantern, before midnight of the day on which he expired." |
