Another name for David was BOSWELL, David of Craigincat and Balmutto.1 User ID: J714. David married Elizabeth MELVILLE, daughter of Sir John MELVILLE 2nd of Raith and Marjory SCOTT 'of Balwearie'.1 (Elizabeth MELVILLE was born about 1420.) Marriage Notes: "David Boswell of Craigincat and Balmutto, had a charter for the third-part of the lands of Balmutto including the castle and manor, from Sir Andrew de Ogilvy of Inchmartin on 20 February 1439, in exchange for those of Wester Dron.7[7 RMS 1424-1513. No. 217 & 218]. He witnessed a charter by Andrew Ramsay of Balmonth granting the lands of Burnturk to his eldest son and heir, John Ramsay, on 27 February 1483,8[8 RMS 1424-1513. No. 1584] and is said to have d. about 1490 at an advanced age. He m. firstly, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Melville of Raith, in contemplation of which, on 24 June 1439, he quitclaimed the sum of 100 merks due to him by his 'gudefather' John Melville,1[1 Melville Charters No. 30] and in favour of whom a liferent was confirmed on 4 November 1458.2[2 RMS 1424-1513. No. 638]." David next married Isabel WEMYSS, daughter of Sir Thomas WEMYSS of Rires and Margaret MELVILLE.1 (Isabel WEMYSS was born about 1438.) Marriage Notes: "He (David Boswell) m. secondly, Isabel, daughter of Sir Thomas Wemyss of Rires, (she was widow of David Hay of Naughton)" |
