"Arthur Strachan, born about 1646, son of William S., min. of Old Machar, and brother of John S., min. of Tarves; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1662); passed trials before Presb. of Ellon and recommended to the bishop for licence 18th Sept. 1667; passed trials before Presb. of Fordyce and certified for ordination as assistant here 21st Oct. 1668, but following Thomas Thoirs death, was inst. to the full charge 10th Jan. 1669; deprived by the Privy Council, 7th Nov. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and also for praying for the late King's restoration, conversing with rebels, and urging several of his parishioners to take up arms under James, Lord Dunfermline. In 1708 he was officiating at a meeting-house at Mortlich in Cairney. [Scot.Notes and Queries, vii., 122 ; Peterkin's Constitution of the Church, 88.]"

from Fasti Ecclesiae (vol 6)

In an entry about the Reverend James Sibbald, minister of Keith parish, Scottish Episcopal Clergy reports that Arthur Strachan served the parish of Keith in 1707 when the Presbytery of Strathbogie requested the Sheriff of Banff to close the meeting house and forced Sibbald to leave. Sibbald returned later, temporarily. After the 1715 uprising presbyterianism again was restored in the parish and Sibbald was deposed. See also the entry in the same compilation for Arthur Strachan, which notes at the end that he signed an address to Queen Anne for Toleration.

(at Mortlach in 1669)

"Arthur Strachan, on 26th Oct. 1708 the Synod deemed that the Presb. of Strathbogie 'be appointed to apply the civil magistrate for stopping the irregular and scandalous practices of Mr Arthur Strachan, schismaticall preacher at Mortleigh (in Cairney) and that they proceed to censure him as they see cause.'
