  • Born: About 1689
  • Marriage (1): CATTANACH, John tenant in Bellastraid, Logie Mar 1

   User ID: J375.

Daughter married John CATTANACH tenant in Bellastraid, Logie Mar.1 (John CATTANACH tenant in Bellastraid, Logie Mar was born about 1690.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Auchindoir. - John Lumsden of the Cushnie family, who also bought Corrachree, seems at the time of this valuation to have been a heritor in the parish 'within Terpersie's interest,' and is called 'Terpersie alias John Lumsden'. His valuation is £180. John Lumsden of Corrachree married Agnes, daughter of John Gordon ot Auchlyne, and had a daughter who married John Cattanach of Bellastraid, whose brother (see Note below) married the granddaughter of George Gordon of Terpersie (Scottish Notes and Queries, second series, iv., 110)." (page 190)

"Helen Gordon married George Cattanach (1733-1821) in Drumnahive and then in Mossat, Kildrummy, son of John Cattanach; tenant in Bellastraid, Logie Mar, whose other son John married the daughter of 'Lumsden of Corrachree,' probably the John Lumsden who married Agnes, daughter of John Gordon of Auchlyne (Scottish Notes and Queries, second series, vol. iv., p. 110). (page 199)

from Terpersie

Note:

The birth year of George Cattanach who married Helen Gordon, granddaughter of George Gordon 5th of Terpersie was 1733. John Lumsden of Corrachree who married Agnes Gordon was born, apparently, in 1646, so their daughter must have been born in the second half of the 1600s, too early to marry a brother of George Cattanach. The realtionship between the two Cattanachs. therefore, appears to have been intergenerational and is presented here as father and son as outlined in the second paragraph.
