FORBES-GORDON, William 7th of Slellater and 3rd of Balbithan 1User ID: J248. General Notes: "After a long and gallant career in the army Benjamin Gordon was promoted to the rank of General in 1801, at the age of eighty-two. He died two years later on 20th November at Balbithan, being 'the oldest freeholder' in Aberdeen. The General entailed the estate, and it passed to his nephew William Forbes of Skellater, who assumed the additional surname of Gordon. He is credited with making considerable additions and improvements to the house. On his death in 1815 he was succeeded by his son, General Benjamin Forbes." William married Helen MACKENZIE.1 (Helen MACKENZIE was born about 1745.) Marriage Notes: "VII. William Forbes of Skellater and Balbithan, married Helen McKenzie, by whom he had three sons and two daughters : (1) Benjamin, his heir. (2) John, of the Bengal Civil Service, buried at Ham. (3) William Henry. (4) Herries, married James Urquhart of Meldrum. (5) Helen, died young." |
