James married Jean DOUGLAS, daughter of William DOUGLAS 7th Earl of Morton and Lord Aberdour, Treasurer of Scotland and Anne KEITH, 13 July 1640(contract and charter).1 2 (Jean DOUGLAS was born about 1615 and died in 1694 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Lord Home married Jean Douglas, fourth daughter of William, second (see Note below) Earl of Morton. She had a charter from him, in terms of their marriage-contract, of the baronies of Dunglas, Aldcambus, and Fast Castle, in Berwickshire, and of Thornton, in Haddingtonshire, in liferent, 'to Jean Douglas, now Countess of Home,' dated at The Hirsel 13 July 1640."

from Scots Peerage (vol 4)

Note:

Though there is no correction of this in the
Addenda et Corrigenda volume 9 of this series, it would seem that 'second' here may be an author error.

"Jean (Douglas), married (contract 13 July 1640) to James, third Earl of Home. She was living in 1683."
