"James Innes was a son of Dr. Robert Innes, and succeeded his father in his profession. He had a large practice, and was much employed by the best families, both in the town and country. He also took a great interest in the municipal affairs of the burgh. He was Provost from 1720 to 1723, from 1731 to 1734, and from 1737 to 1740, and was Commissioner to the Convention of Burghs in 1721. He probably died shortly after 1740, as I do not find any notice of him after that date." (page 587)
