In a bond of manrent dated 1578, he is described as 'James Fraser in Belladrum, brother-german to Hucheon Fraser of Guichachan.' He is again on record in 1588. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Mackenzie, I. of Davochmaluag, with issue"
