"James, who in a bond of manrent, dated in 1578, is described as James Fraser 'in Belladrum, brother german to Hucheon Fraser of Guisachan.' His son Hugh became first of Belladrum, having received a charter of it from Simon the eighth Lord on the I3th of June, 1598."

James Fraser, first of this family, was the second son of William Fraser, I. of Guisachan, second son of Thomas, fourth Lord Lovat. In a bond of manrent dated 1578, he is described as 'James Fraser in Belladrum, brother-german to Hucheon Fraser of Guichachan.' He is again on record in 1588. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Mackenzie, I. of Davochmaluag, with issue"
