  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander Ramsay of Balnabreich was born circa 1520 (see Note below). He was the son of William Ramsay of Balnabreich and Janet Lindsay. He married Matilda Annand of Persie, daughter of Andrew Thomasson Annand of Persie and Helena Robertsdotter Strachan of Brigtoun. He died in 1576 at Riga, Latvia.

He fought in the Siege of Dumbarton in 1571, as a commander. He gained the rank of officer in 1573 in the Swedish forces."

Note:

The approximate year of birth is much too early. According to
The Scots Peerage, volume 3 page 20, Janet Lindsay, mother of this Alexander Ramsay was the daughter of Elizabeth Spens, a later wife of Sir David Lindsay:

"Sir David (Lindsay) appears to have been contracted in marriage with an Agnes Ogilvy in 1514, which was set aside on account of propinquity in blood, after which he married, as his second wife, Elizabeth Spens, daughter of the Laird of Bodum (afterwards wife of John Anstruther of Anstruther, and dead in 1532)."

If this is accurate, it follows then that Janet Lindsay was born after 1514, so her son Alexander could not have been born in 1520.
