"1800 Sepr 20 Mr James Forbes & Miss Jean Niven Upon the twentieth day of September one Thousand Eight hundred By the Revd Mr John Walker Episcopal Minister in Huntly were lawfuly married in the house of the Brides Father at Clova in the Parish of Kildrummie *after due proclamation of Banns (*added later in side bar) Mr James Forbes Merchant in Aberdeen & Miss Jean Niven there Daughter of John Niven Esqr of Peebles (?) In presence of these witnesses George Hogarth Esqr of Marshall Meadows & Mr William Forbes Merchant in Aberdeen"
"James (Forbes) .... married, 1810 (see Note below), Jane, third daughter of John Niven of Thornton, Aberdeenshire, by whom he had three sons and six daughters : William, advocate in Edinburgh and barrister in London, John and James, all died unmarried. Rachel Ann, married 1832 Patrick Watson Carnegie of Lour and Turin, Angus. Jane, married Clements Lumsden, advocate in Aberdeen, and was mother of Dame Louisa Lumsden, 1840-1934. Elizabeth, Edith, Marie aud Christina died unmarried. James Forbes of Echt died July 3Ist, 1850, but before his death he had sold the estate"
