Marriage Notes: "Margaret (Maitland), married to John Edmondstone of that Ilk. It is said that they were within the forbidden degrees, and that a dispensation for their marriage was granted in 1462 .... On 31 July 1496 a charter of the lands of Ednem and others was obtained by James Edmondstone, with remainder to his brothers David and William on the resignation of John Edmondstone, de eodem, and Margaret Mateland, his spouse, reserving the liferent of the said John and a reasonable terce to the said Margaret." |
