MURRAY, James of Cockpool, Sir 2User ID: E34. James married Janet DOUGLAS, daughter of Sir William DOUGLAS of Hawick and Margaret GORDON.1 2 (Janet DOUGLAS was born about 1575.) Marriage Notes: "Sir James Murray of Cockpool, was served heir to his father in 1605. He added the lands of Searig, salmon fishings in the Annan, and part of the lands of Mouswald to the family property. In 1608 he was upon a commission to reduce the price of hides, and next year Parliament ratified his title to the barony of Cockpool. He was a commissioner of Justiciary and custos rotulorum in 1613, and died in 1620, leaving by his wife Janet, second daughter of Sir William Douglas of Drumlanrig, three daughters." (page 262) |
