WEMYSS, David of that Ilk, Ambassador to Norway, Sir
(About 1245-1331) |
WEMYSS, David of that Ilk, Ambassador to Norway, Sir 1
User ID: H446. David married Annabella SINCLAIR, daughter of Sir William SINCLAIR of Roslin, Sheriff of Edinburgh, Haddington, Linlithgow and Dumfries, Justiciar of Galloway and Amicia de Roskelyn, about 1296.1 (Annabella SINCLAIR was born about 1265 and died before 1304 1.) Marriage Notes: "Sir David Wemyss of Wemyss, who succeeded, first appears on record between 1290 and 1296, when he granted to Annabella Sinclair, widow of Sir Robert Bisset, certain lands in the barony of Lochore, including rights over Balbedie, Capildray, Strathruddie, co. Fife ; Ardargie, in Perthshire, Wester Dron ; and the half of 'Eglisdikin,' in the earldom of Menteith. In another writ Sir David styles himself lord of the half lands of Sir David Lochore, late lord of Lochore. This seems to imply that his mother was an heiress of that family .... He married, or was betrothed to, Annabella Sinclair named above, to whom he granted the charter of the Lochore lands, to her and his children by her." David next married Marjory or Margery RAMSAY before 1304.1 2 (Marjory or Margery RAMSAY was born about 1275 and died after 3 July 1328 2.) Marriage Notes: "Some time before 1304 he (David Wemyss) married Marjory Ramsay, daughter of Walter Ramsay" |
